SP-Indonesia.com, Indonesiaan – The Indonesian Diving Association (POSSI) of Batam City held the inauguration of its interim management and the inauguration of POSSI Batam’s dive clubs under its auspices, with the theme “One Stream, One Achievement.” The event took place at the Batam City Youth and Sports Agency (Dispora) Hall on Sunday (July 19, 2026).

The event was attended by representatives from the Batam City Dispora, representatives from the Batam City KONI (Indonesian National Sports Committee), namely Nurhadi, Hidayat, and Budi; representatives from the Batam City Government, Reza Kadafi; representatives from the First Fleet Command (Koarmada I), the POSSI Batam management, and diving clubs under POSSI Batam City.

The Chairman of POSSI Riau Islands Province, Budit, stated that the inauguration of the new management was a strategic step to strengthen the organization and improve diving development in Batam City.

According to him, diving development in Batam has been dominated by two active clubs. With the addition of these clubs, it is hoped that athlete development will expand and produce more high-achieving athletes.

“This inauguration will spur the organization to become more active and able to produce more diving clubs. The elected management must also be truly active and committed to developing the sport of diving,” said Budit.

He emphasized that the management must be filled by competent individuals who are willing to dedicate their time to developing the organization.

“If any management members are inactive, replacements can certainly be made. The most important thing is that the organization continues to operate and that athlete development activities continue to improve,” he said.

Budit hopes that the new POSSI Batam management will improve the achievements of diving athletes who will represent the Riau Islands Province in various sporting events.

“We hope this inauguration will spur the production of high-achieving diving athletes. Batam has been the most active region, so we need to continue to develop new athletes,” he added.

During the inauguration ceremony, Budit symbolically handed over the POSSI flag to the Chairperson of POSSI Batam City, Rifka Sembiring, as an official sign of the inauguration of the interim board.

Next, Ripka Sembiring inaugurated six diving clubs under POSSI Batam’s guidance by handing over their flags to each club: Citra Mas, Garda Samudra, NSS, HSDC, Hiu Perkasa, and EC-Mas.

Ripka stated that the increase in the number of clubs is the first step to strengthening diving development in Batam City.

“Until now, there have only been two active clubs. Now we are inaugurating four new clubs, bringing the total to six. This way, we can hold various inter-club competitions in the future as part of athlete development,” she said.

She explained that the next program to be implemented is an introduction to diving equipment for all club members, followed by diver certification.

“Our target for August is to introduce diving equipment to six clubs, followed by certification. This way, they will be ready to participate in various championships, including national events,” explained Ripka

According to her, as an island region, Batam has great potential to produce diving athletes capable of competing at the national level.

“We hope that diving in Batam will continue to develop and achieve success at the national level,” she said.

Meanwhile, the Chairperson of the Batam City KONI, Rani Rafitriyani, expressed her appreciation for the inauguration of the new POSSI Batam management and the inauguration of the six dive clubs under its guidance.

She hopes the new management will be able to provide sustainable development programs that will produce high-achieving dive athletes.

“I congratulate the new POSSI Batam management and the six clubs that have officially joined. Hopefully, with this new spirit, POSSI Batam will be able to achieve success at the city, provincial, national, and even international levels, while also bringing honor to Batam City,” said Rani.
