SP – Indonesia.com, Indonesia – Construction of the Armco Bridge on the Mata Satu River in Penarah Village, Belat District, Karimun Regency, reached 40.1 percent progress on Wednesday (May 6, 2026), despite facing various terrain and logistical challenges.
Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) personnel from the 0317/TBK Military District Command (Kodim), along with the community, continue to work on the foundation casting of the bridge, the initial stage of construction. The 7-meter-span, 2.5-meter-high bridge is projected to become a vital inter-regional link in Penarah Village and directly benefit 1,317 people.
At the site, activity was dynamic. Materials were transported by boat across the 4-meter-wide river, then manually transported by TNI personnel and residents to the construction site. This situation presented a unique challenge, slowing the distribution of construction materials.
“We had to transport all the materials across by boat and then carry them to the site on our shoulders. It was indeed difficult, but we remain optimistic that the work would be completed on time,” said one of the personnel in the field.
In addition to distribution constraints, high tides also affected the work schedule. During high tide, construction activities were forced to halt for up to four hours because the water level reached 2.60 meters, exceeding normal levels.
The limited availability of building materials on site was also a concern. Materials such as stone and sand were not locally available, so they had to be imported from outside the area through a time-consuming ordering process.
Nevertheless, the spirit of mutual cooperation between the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) and the community remained strong. Intensive field coordination was carried out to ensure each stage of the work proceeded effectively and safely.
Currently, work is focused on casting the ground floor, while other stages, such as the abutments, girders, and bridge deck, will be implemented in stages.
The situation around the construction site is safe and under control. This project is expected to be completed soon, providing faster and safer access for the community and boosting economic growth in the region.
