SP- Indonesia.com, Indonesia -The actions of the Riau Islands Regional People’s Representative Council (DPRD) Speaker Iman Sutiawan have drawn public attention after a video of him riding a motorcycle without a helmet went viral on social media on Saturday (May 9, 2026).

In the video, uploaded to his personal Instagram account @iman_sutiawan75, the Gerindra Party politician is seen riding the motorcycle along the main road of the Laluan Madani Flyover (Laluan Seiladi) towards the Batam area.

The video depicts an afternoon ride accompanied by the soundtrack of the song “Kicau Mania.” In his post, Iman wrote:

“Sunset in Batam always has a way of creating a warm atmosphere. Enjoying an evening motorcycle ride and feeling that simple friendships like this are what bring us closer together. Turns out it’s quite fun, hehehe.”

However, the post drew criticism from netizens. This is because Iman Sutiawan was seen not wearing a helmet while riding a motorcycle on the highway.

A number of netizens considered this action not setting a good example for a public official and disregarding road safety. Several accounts were observed posting critical comments before the video was finally removed from his personal Instagram account.

The motorcycle he was riding was identified as a Harley-Davidson FXDR 114, a 1,868 cc motorcycle with a Milwaukee-Eight 114 engine that has a market price of around Rp 600 million.

Ironically, the motorbike, with license plate number BP 6215 VE, was being ridden without any helmet protection. In the video, Iman is seen wearing only a camouflage shirt and jeans while riding on a public road.

Riding without a helmet is regulated under Article 291 paragraph (1) in conjunction with Article 106 paragraph (8) of Law Number 22 of 2009 concerning Traffic and Road Transportation. Motorcyclists who fail to wear a helmet that meets national standards can face up to one month in prison or a fine of up to IDR 250,000.

The public is now awaiting the police’s response to this case. The public believes that traffic regulations should apply equally to all citizens, regardless of position.
