SP- Indonesia.com, Indonesia – Around 1,500 workers filled the Putri Kemuning People’s Stage in the Coastal Area, Teluk Air Village, Karimun District, from 7:00 a.m. Western Indonesian Time (WIB) to commemorate International Workers’ Day (May Day) 2026.
The event proceeded safely and orderly with the presence of security personnel, including the Pasilog Kodim 0317/TBK Captain Czi Budiarto Sianturi, who represented the Dandim 0317/TBK.
The atmosphere was lively from the morning. Workers from PT Saipem Indonesia Karimun Yard gathered in a spirit of solidarity, beginning the activity with a technical briefing before embarking on a leisurely walk around the coastal area.
The event then continued on to the main stage with an official opening, a prayer, and the singing of the national anthem Indonesia Raya and the FSPMI March. The dance offerings added a sense of togetherness to the commemoration, which was steeped in the meaning of struggle.
The Head of the PUK SPLP PT SIKY, Aryo Prayetno, in his remarks emphasized the importance of serious attention to occupational safety.
“We remind companies to truly treat people humanely. Worker safety must be a priority, not just a formality,” he firmly stated to the participants.
Meanwhile, Harabonar, a representative of PT Saipem Indonesia Karimun Yard management, emphasized the company’s commitment to fulfilling workers’ rights in accordance with regulations.
“We continue to strive to ensure workers’ rights are fulfilled and maintain harmonious industrial relations,” he said.
The Deputy Regent of Karimun, Rocky M. Bawole, who was also in attendance, considered the May Day commemoration a moment for collaboration.
“Labor unions are strategic partners of the government. We want all parties to work together for the welfare of workers,” he said.
At the location, the presence of Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) and Indonesian National Police (Polri) personnel was actively involved in securing and supervising the event. Captain Czi Budiarto Sianturi ensured that the entire event ran smoothly and without disruption.
“We are here to ensure that community activities run safely and conducively, while also strengthening synergy with all elements,” he said.
The series of events concluded with the distribution of door prizes, dangkong entertainment, and a communal meal, further strengthening the sense of togetherness. At precisely 12:00 p.m. Western Indonesian Time, the event concluded in a safe, orderly, and friendly atmosphere.
The 2026 May Day commemoration in Karimun reflects a new approach—combining workers’ aspirations with open communication, while strengthening collaboration between workers, the government, and authorities to create a safe and equitable work environment.
